Jawaid Khan, Community Cohesion Manager

Hello, I am Jawaid Khan Community Cohesion Manager with the Greater Peterborough Partnership.

My key role involves working with public, private, voluntary and community sector on the theme of community cohesion.

Cohesion is often seen as a challenge and perhaps the starting point is what it means!!

In simple words, perhaps it would be useful to point out that Cohesion is not just about race and faith and integration is not about assimilation. It is about every one and about greater mutual respect and harmony. It is about rights as well as responsibilities. It is about strong and positive relationships between people from different backgrounds in the workplace, in schools and within neighbourhoods.

For detailed definition of cohesion and cohesion challenges in Peterborough, please
click here to see a recent powerpoint presented to Peterborough's voluntary community sector group.

This presentation is in particularly aimed to provide a brief outline of the Cohesion Board Action Plan as well as seek your input as to how things can be done better. Your thoughts and suggestions will be most welcome.

The creation of strong, vital and cohesive communities is one of the most
important issues we face. This is a critical factor in the quality of people's
lives and for the harmony of the nation as a whole. (Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart).
