Around the World in 80 Plates

Enjoy a taste of Peterborough’s cultural diversity with an opportunity to sample some of the different foods from the many communities in the city.

As part of the Peterborough Festival, visit Central Park over the weekend of June 26 and 27, between 12pm and 3pm, and you can sample a range of dishes and exotic flavours from many different areas.

All of the dishes will be prepared by different cultures and communities living in Peterborough. Food to sample will include dhakla, bhel, raita, bhaji and puri.

The ‘Around the World in 80 Plates’ event has been organised by the Peterborough Festival team, in partnership with the Greater Peterborough Partnership (GPP). GPP’s Assistant Cohesion Manager, Sue Rampal said, “Everyone is invited to join us in Central Park to try the wide variety of locally prepared foods. This is a great opportunity to taste a number of different foods which you may not have tried before.”

Peterborough’s Desi Ladies Group will be offering dhokla and puff pastry for visitors to try on Saturday, and bhel and chutney on Sunday. Maz Syed, chair of the Desi Ladies Group said, “We are very excited to be taking part in the ‘Around the World in 80 Plates’ event. We are looking forward to sharing our food with the Peterborough residents, and I can’t wait to try the dishes of the other communities involved and perhaps swap some recipes and cooking tips too.”

Please contact Sue Rampal for further information on how to get involved and funding by calling 01733 207330 or email sue.rampal@gpp-peterborough.org.uk.
