I went along to a joint Peterborough Racial Equality Council (PREC) and GPP Community Cohesion Board community session last week on European migration and the impact it has on community cohesion and policing resources.
Cambridgeshire Chief Constable, Julie Spence came along and gave a detailed and thought provoking presentation on how migration is affecting policing and community cohesion . The presentation proved to be a very useful for understanding some of the key impacts of migration on policing and the actions being taken by the constabulary and other partner organisations to deal with challenges.
A discussion followed, with the audience made up of representatives from organisations from across Peterborough giving views on how best to respond to the issues raised. The subject of deprivation, particularly in relation to the recent economic downturn was discussed as well as teenage pregnancy and the honour-based hotline service. Feedback on a number of other subjects was also given during the follow up discussion. These subjects included Open Out Scheme, tackling fascism and child protection.
