Conference to share good practice in education of children

A day of practical advice about parenting and education will be held on Sunday (18 April 2010) from 10.30am – 4.00pm organised by the Muslim Community Reference Group. The conference is free to attend and will be held at Gladstone Park Community Centre, Bourges Boulevard in Peterborough.

The Muslim Community Reference Group a newly formed Community group aims to provide a united platform for the Muslim voice in Peterborough and foster better community relations for the good of Peterborough as a whole.

The convener of the session is Shaukat Warraich, CEO of Faith Associates, an organisation which strives to train and develop organisations around faith based communities, youth and women from the ethnic minorities.

Speakers at the conference are Dr Musharraf Hussain Al-Azhari OBE, Director of Karimia Institute, Nottingham, who will be speaking on the needs of our children in relation to Madrassa education in the UK. Dr Musharraf is the author of ‘7 Steps to Moral Intelligence’, a reference book for parents which aims to help them become role models for their children whilst helping to build strong character.

Tahir Alam will also speak at the event on the role and responsibilities of parents in supporting children’s education. Tahir Alam is Director of Al-Hijrah Training Academy, an organisation which aims to provide educational empowerment of the Muslim community, with a great deal of experience working with both public and private schools and organisations.

The conference will include plenty of opportunity for questions and answers with discussion and reflection on key actions needed in Peterborough.
