Chambers of Commerce to help Peterborough Managers get ‘Back to Business’

Peterborough Back to Business Club will be joined by Peter Watts, Membership Development Officer from the Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce on Thursday 29 July.

Peter will join the Club, which offers guidance to managers and professionals seeking work, to give members an introduction to Chamber Services and the services it provides, including free networking sessions and support to new businesses.

Peter said, “Many people do not realise just how much the Chamber has to offer to business people and also those seeking professional employment. Through our links with many local businesses and organisation, the Chamber holds a great deal of knowledge regarding Peterborough as a city which is continuously developing and growing.”

Peter will also give an update on the changing economic climate and employment market in Peterborough. Peter added, “With large employers such as Eddie Stobart moving to Peterborough the prospects for the employment market in the city are looking increasingly positive. I will be sharing recently updated figures on Peterborough’s changing job market within the city and provide insight on what professional job seekers can expect in the coming months.”

The Back to Business Club was established by the Greater Peterborough Partnership and aims to help out-of-work managers and professionals to maintain their confidence and motivation as they seek to return to the workplace, through networking with others in the same position and through introductions to support services.

The Club was set up in September 2009 following a rise in professional redundancies due to the economic downturn. Since opening its door in September 2009, the Back to Business Club has seen 210 managers and professionals who are seeking work pass through its doors, with 50 people confirming they have returned to work.

Amanda Papworth, JobCentre Plus advisor and facilitator of the Back to Business Club said, “Through the Back to Business Club we have met many highly qualified Peterborough professionals who are looking for work. If your business is looking to recruit in Peterborough, I would definitely recommend you contact the Back to Business Club and we will share your vacancy with this highly qualified pool of local talent.”

The Back to Business Club is held every Thursday from 14:00 to 17:00 at Peterborough College of Adult Education. Brook Street. There is no charge for attendance – just contact the Back to Business Club on 01733 207214 or email backtobusiness@gpp-peterborough.org.uk. For more information, visit www.backtobusiness.org.uk.
